What does a percentage calculator do?
A percentage calculator compares values on a per-hundred basis. Use it to find a percentage of a number, express one value as a percentage of another, or measure the relative increase or decrease between two values.
How to use the Percentage Calculator
- Step 1Choose the percentage calculation that matches your question.
- Step 2Enter the two values; decimals and percentages above 100 are supported.
- Step 3Read the result and the displayed calculation, then copy it if needed.
Formula / How it works
Percentage of a number = (percentage ÷ 100) × number
Example
20% of 150 is 30.
Percentage Calculator FAQ
Can a percentage be greater than 100%?
Yes. A percentage above 100% means the value is greater than the reference amount. For example, 150% of 80 is 120.
Why can I not divide by zero in a percentage calculation?
A value cannot be expressed as a finite percentage of zero because division by zero is undefined. Enter a non-zero total or original value.
What is the difference between percentage change and percentage points?
Percentage change measures the relative change from the original value. Percentage points measure the direct difference between two rates, such as 20% to 25% being 5 percentage points but a 25% relative increase.
