Drywall Calculator

Estimate drywall or plasterboard for walls, full rooms and ceilings—including openings, waste and cost.

Transparent calculationsRuns in your browserExport where supported

Walls and rooms

Add a single wall, a full room, or several rooms in one estimate.

Board and pricing

Estimate board quantity from area only. Confirm board layout, number of layers, framing, edge support, fire and acoustic specifications before ordering.

Drywall and Plasterboard Estimating

Estimate one wall, several walls, a complete room or walls plus ceiling. Multiple rooms are combined into one board and cost total.

Gross Area and Opening Deductions

Gross wall area is based on entered room geometry and wall count. Ceiling area is added when selected, while the combined area of doors, windows and other openings is deducted.

Sheet Size, Layout and Waste

The area-based sheet count is a planning minimum. Board orientation, staggered joints, offcuts, damage and multi-layer systems affect real ordering. Choose a waste percentage suitable for the layout.

Optional Finishing Materials

Tape, compound and screw outputs use broad rates stated beside the results. Treat them as early estimates and check the selected board system and manufacturer's installation information.

Drywall Calculator FAQ

How many drywall sheets do I need?

The calculator divides net wall and ceiling area by sheet area, rounds up, then adds the chosen waste allowance and rounds up again.

Can I subtract doors and windows?

Yes. Enter their combined area for each room or wall group. Deductions cannot reduce net board area below zero.

Can I add multiple rooms?

Yes. Each room can have different dimensions, wall count, openings, ceiling choice and quantity.

Does sheet orientation change the result?

The core count is area based. Orientation records your layout intention but real cuts and joints can require more sheets, which is why a waste allowance remains important.

Are tape, compound and screws exact?

No. They are optional secondary estimates based on clearly displayed area factors. Joint layout, coats, framing and installation method can change actual use.

Does the calculator support imperial sheets?

Yes. It includes common 4 × 8, 4 × 10 and 4 × 12 foot sheets, plus metric and custom sizes.
