Area breakdown
| Component | Shape | Operation | Area |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main area | rectangle | Add | 50.0000 m² |
- Gross positive area
- 50.0000 m²
- Total deducted
- 0.0000 m²
- Net area
- 50.0000 m²
Net equivalents: 50000000.0 mm² · 500000.0 cm² · 538.196 ft² · 77500.15 in²
How can simple shapes calculate an irregular area?
Complex plans can often be decomposed into tested simple shapes. Add rectangles, circles, triangles and other components, then subtract openings or voids to produce one transparent net-area breakdown.
How to use the Area Calculator
- Step 1Keep the initial rectangle or select another supported shape.
- Step 2Add more components and mark each one Add or Subtract.
- Step 3Review every converted component, gross positive area, deductions and net area.
Formula / How it works
Net area = gross added component areas − deducted openings or voids.
Example
Add 40 m² and 12 m² rectangles, then subtract a 3 m² void for a net 49 m².
Area Calculator FAQ
Can different components use different units?
Yes. Each component is converted to square metres before the add/subtract totals are calculated.
How do I calculate an L-shaped room?
Add two non-overlapping rectangles, or add one outer rectangle and subtract the missing rectangular corner.
Does area include material waste?
No. Area is the geometric surface only. Apply an appropriate waste percentage when estimating materials.
