Bulk material estimator
Gravel / Aggregate Calculator
Calculate aggregate area, volume, weight, waste, truck loads and cost across multiple shapes.
Areas
Add multiple material areas and combine them in one estimate.
Material and cost
Material required
9.24 t
Including 10% allowance.
Volume = total area × depth × quantity
Mass = 5.000 m³ × 1680 kg/m³ = 8400 kg
Required = 8.40 t × (1 + 10/100) = 9.24 t
Quantity estimate only. Verify dimensions and supplier density. Bulk density changes with material grading, moisture and compaction.
Gravel and Aggregate Quantity
Use the calculator for gravel, crushed stone, pea gravel, road base, limestone or a custom bulk material. Multiple areas are combined before density, waste and price are applied.
Volume, Density and Weight
Geometric volume alone does not determine delivery weight. Bulk density converts volume to mass and varies with particle grading, moisture and compaction. Supplier data should replace the preset whenever available.
How the Formula Works
For a rectangle or trench, volume equals length × width × depth × quantity. A circle uses π × radius² × depth. Mass equals total volume × density, and required mass includes the selected waste percentage.
Ordering and Truck Loads
The truck-load estimate divides required tonnes by the payload and rounds upward. Actual loads may be limited by vehicle, road, moisture or supplier policies, so confirm delivery quantities directly.
Gravel / Aggregate Calculator FAQ
How much gravel do I need?
Enter each area's shape, dimensions and depth. The calculator multiplies total volume by the chosen bulk density and waste allowance.
What density should I use for gravel?
Use the supplier's compacted or loose bulk density matching how the material is sold. Presets are planning values only because grading, moisture and compaction change density.
Can I calculate several areas together?
Yes. Add as many rectangles, circles, trenches or known-area entries as needed. Each can have its own depth and quantity.
How are tonnes calculated?
Net mass equals volume in cubic metres multiplied by density in kilograms per cubic metre. The result is divided by 1,000 for metric tonnes, then waste is added.
Can I estimate delivery loads?
Yes. Enter the usable truck payload in tonnes. The tool rounds the waste-adjusted mass up to a whole number of loads.
Does the calculator work in feet and inches?
Yes. Imperial dimensions are converted internally and results show cubic metres, cubic feet and cubic yards.
