Before making an overpayment, check whether your loan has prepayment penalties or special allocation rules.

How Extra Payments Reduce a Loan

Interest is charged on the remaining principal. When an extra payment immediately reduces principal, future interest is calculated on a smaller balance, which can shorten the schedule and lower total interest.

Plan a Debt-Free Date

Target-date mode works backward from the selected payoff date. It calculates the level monthly payment needed to amortize the current balance over the available months at the entered rate.

Recurring vs One-Time Overpayments

A recurring amount raises every scheduled payment. A one-time amount models a lump sum at a chosen payment number. You can combine both to explore a practical payoff plan.

Check Your Loan Agreement

Before acting, confirm whether your lender charges early-repayment fees, imposes annual limits, or applies extra money to principal immediately. A settlement quote may differ from an estimated balance.

Loan Payoff Calculator FAQ

How much faster can I pay off my loan?

Enter the current balance, rate and payment, then add a recurring or one-time overpayment. The result compares months and interest under the current and new plans.

Can I calculate a payment for a target payoff date?

Yes. Choose the target-date mode and select when you want the balance cleared. The required level monthly payment is calculated for the remaining number of months.

Will every extra payment reduce interest?

Usually, but lender rules matter. Some loans have penalties or hold overpayments for future installments instead of immediately reducing principal.

What if my current payment is too low?

If the payment does not cover the interest accruing each month, the calculator shows a warning because the balance cannot amortize under that plan.

Can I add lump-sum payments?

Yes. Add one-time payments by payment number. They are applied directly to principal in the modeled schedule.

Does CalcsBay store my loan details?

No account is used. Ordinary calculations run locally in your browser.
