Brick face size plus the bed and perpend joint creates the planning module used for bricks per area.
This is a material quantity estimate. It does not determine bond, wall thickness, structural capacity, lintels, ties, reinforcement, movement joints or code compliance. The mortar result is a geometric planning approximation.
Gross wall sections are reduced by their own openings. The net one-face area is then multiplied by the chosen leaf factor before the brick-plus-joint module converts area into a theoretical brick count.
A 10 m × 2 m wall with a 2 m² gate opening has 18 m² net area. A 215 × 65 mm brick with 10 mm joints gives about 59.26 bricks/m², or roughly 1,067 bricks before waste.
The same 18 m² face with a two-leaf multiplier uses 36 m² of effective masonry face for quantity planning. At 59.26 bricks/m² the theoretical quantity is about 2,133 bricks before waste and pack rounding.
Bond, piers, returns, lintels, cavity width, ties, reinforcement, movement joints and structural capacity are project decisions. Add distinct wall sections or allowances where those details change material use.
The horizontal and vertical joint increase the planning module occupied by each brick. A larger module means fewer brick faces per square metre, which is why actual brick and joint dimensions both matter.
Doors and windows reduce the main wall-face area. Their deductions should still be reviewed against bricks needed for reveals, sills, lintel zones and cuts, which may justify a separate allowance.
It multiplies face quantity only: one leaf uses ×1 and two leaves use ×2. It does not define structural wall thickness, bond, cavity construction or compliance with any local standard.
The optional result compares the brick face with the brick-plus-joint module and extends that face-joint difference through the entered brick depth. It is a geometric planning approximation, not a mortar yield guarantee.
No. Enter the quantity stated by the supplier for the selected brick. The calculator rounds the waste-adjusted requirement to that pack size and shows the resulting spare quantity.
