How salary tax works in Canada
Canadian employees pay federal and provincial or territorial tax plus CPP or QPP and Employment Insurance. Select any province or territory, and enter eligible registered-retirement contributions, spouse income, childcare expenses, disability status and age or a valid CPP stop election.
Income tax in Canada
The estimate applies the 2026 federal and selected provincial schedules, basic personal and employment amounts, and modeled spouse or disability amounts. Registered-retirement and eligible childcare entries reduce taxable income, subject to eligibility limits that the calculator cannot fully validate.
Employee contributions
CPP uses the basic exemption and first ceiling plus the CPP2 range; Quebec uses QPP and its lower EI rate. Contributions stop at 70, or can stop from 65 to 69 only after a valid election in the circumstances shown by the tool.
Take-home pay example
Changing Ontario to Quebec changes provincial tax, pension-plan rates and EI. Entering a low-income spouse can increase the modeled federal spouse amount, while an RRSP contribution reduces taxable income only when sufficient deduction room exists.

Canada salary calculator FAQ
Which province should I select for Canadian income tax?
Generally use the province or territory where you are resident on 31 December 2026. Interprovincial moves, Quebec-specific deductions and multiple establishments can require a return-level calculation.
How are spouse, childcare and disability handled?
The federal estimate can include an income-tested spouse amount, entered eligible childcare deduction and an approximate approved disability amount. Lower-income-spouse rules, certificates and detailed expense caps are not verified.
Which provincial items are not included?
The model applies the main provincial bands and basic credit. Ontario surtax and health premium, Quebec abatement detail, refundable family benefits and many province-specific credits can change final tax.
