How salary tax works in Italy
Italian take-home pay combines national IRPEF, employee insurance, employment credits and region-and-municipality addizionali. Choose a local-rate profile or enter the combined official rate, and add an eligible dependent spouse, qualifying older children or the new impatriate regime where applicable.
Income tax in Italy
The 2026 national bands are 23%, 33% and 43%. The calculation then applies the employee credit, the income-tested labour-wedge benefit, an eligible dependent-spouse credit and credits for children aged 21 to 29 or older disabled children entered in the tool.
Employee contributions
The employee insurance estimate uses the standard private-sector IVS share, the additional 1% above the 2026 threshold and the relevant cap. Actual INPS treatment can vary by sector, occupation, contract and pre-1996 insurance history.
Take-home pay example
Two employees on the same gross salary can receive different results because their regional and municipal add-ons differ. A qualifying impatriate is modeled on 50% of eligible income, or 40% when the selected minor-child enhancement applies.

Italy salary calculator FAQ
How should I enter Italian local tax?
Use the combined regional and municipal add-on shown by the official authorities, or select a planning profile. Municipality exemptions and progressive local bands are not validated by a generic percentage.
Which children receive an IRPEF credit in this calculator?
Enter children aged 21 to 29, or children aged 30 or over with a qualifying disability. Children under 21 are generally covered by Assegno Unico, which is a separate benefit and is not added to salary take-home.
What does the Italian impatriate option assume?
It assumes the employment income qualifies under the current five-year regime and stays within its statutory ceiling. Prior non-residence, Italian work, qualification and residence-commitment conditions must be confirmed independently.
