This is a material layout, not a machine safety sequence. The browser uses a bounded best-fit heuristic and reports an optimized layout; global optimality is not claimed.

How does a 1D cut list optimizer work?

The optimizer assigns required linear pieces to available stock while accounting for physical cut width, optional end trims, finite quantities, cost and the distinction between waste and reusable remnants. It uses a bounded best-fit strategy suitable for browser use and does not claim a proof of global optimality.

How to use the Cut List Optimizer

  1. Step 1Enter each available stock length and its finite or unlimited quantity.
  2. Step 2Add required parts, kerf, trims and the reusable-remnant threshold.
  3. Step 3Review grouped patterns and export the shop-floor cutting list.

Formula / How it works

Each cutting pattern includes finished pieces, separating cuts, trim and any final remnant cut.

Example

Lay out timber or steel lengths across finite or unlimited stock and export the cutting sequence.

Cut List Optimizer FAQ

Does kerf affect every cut?

Yes. Separating pieces consumes kerf, and a retained leftover requires a final separating cut unless the required pieces exactly consume the usable stock.

Is the result mathematically optimal?

Not necessarily. The tool evaluates a strong decreasing best-fit layout within browser-safe limits and describes it as optimized, not globally proven optimal.

Can I use multiple stock sizes?

Yes. Add finite or unlimited stock rows with different lengths and optional per-piece costs.
